Christmas dreams and New Year hopes
Christmas is upon us, the end of the world is upon us too this year. So try to relax and enjoy some of the beauty that is offered to us. One thing is for sure, we are not lacking choices.
We all need a bit of shimmer in our lives and cheeks this time of the year. Chantecaille has a nice limited-edition highlighting powder called befittingly Petales des Roses available at SpaceNK. It looks like your face will get caught in a flower petal storm or alternatively get trapped in a Jackson Pollock painting. A bit steep at £64 (that was the sound of my wallet’s jaw dropping) but totally diaphanous.
OK, if you want something to nourish the senses, Ortigia, this amazing Sicilian brand has an addictive line called Fico d’India, it’s fig and sandalwood mixed together for a catnip of a concoction. The bath salts and the bath oil are especially worth it.
And if you’re a bit of a hypochondriac like me, you’ll feel a lot safer with Strange Beautiful’s new Dose nail polish vials that come in eighteen different colors. They are so cute and tiny, you’d think you could down them in one go. That’s what the doctor ordered. £20 gets you a trio at Cultbeauty.
For the sophisticated bling lovers, Robert Piguet and Swarowski have prepared a special edition of Fracas and Visa- the 60ml pure parfume bottles are emblazoned with crystals and can be bought for £700. Oh yeah, you read correctly. Methinks you’ll find them at Harrods. Where else?
For unabashed room scent lovers the choices are rather great. Dyptique has a Goden Fir holiday collection candle on offer for £45. It’s like walking in the snow through an evergreen forest moistened by the morning dew. Willow promises more Christmas atmosphere with their Organic Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh Candle. £39 straight from the source.
Danish makeup artist Kjaer Weis has launched her own eco-friendly line of eye shadows, blushes and lip tints. They come in compact little red boxes that hide very sleek compacts and they have great staying power and surprising hues. The best bit is that you have the possibility to keep the compact by getting refills, in true green fashion. My pick is Cream Blush in Abundance for £38. You can buy them in UK from naturisimo.com
If the only thing that impresses you is a well manicured face, cult brand Hourglass has a new holiday gift set that will take of all your skin care needs through the party season. It contains Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara, full-size Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss in Ignite, Veil Mineral Primer 10ml and Nº 28 Primer Serum 5ml. All your for £59 from Liberty.
Aroma M, an indie US brand that’s been putting out some amazing fragrances inspired by the Japanese culture, is coming out with a new product, two products in fact. Organic Camelia Hair and face oils that are sure to blow your mind.
A personal favorite of mine is Guerlain. As a perfume lover, I should probably consider it my main temple of worship. I am not enamored with all their fragrances (gasp!) but they do have an amazing beauty line. Their Rouge G de Guerlain L’extrait (Seven Sins) lipsticks are highly pigmented and overall lovely- obviously almost every brand and their mother recently came out with a similar concept of lipgloss that turns into a matt lipstick on application but nothing beats Guerlain’s packaging and hues. I got the Pride, which is a rich plum, but I have got my eye on every single one of them. You can find them at escentual.com for a lower price than the rest. On the same website, which I love because they are so reliable, quick and cheaper than competition, you can buy yourself the wonderful Liu perfumed shimmering powder, also from Guerlain. I’ve got last year’s Vol de Nuit and it’s just fantastic. A bit too wee in size for the price but precious nevertheless.
Ila Spa has a nice little deal on their holiday line. A Touch of Renewal contains THE Face Oil for Radiance (ok, it’s only a 1.75 ml but it goes a long way), a body wash and a bath soak for only £10. Buying it as we speak.
And last but not least Smashbox has a new eye pallette, the Studio Pop, which comes in 16 eye shades and 4 cream eye liners. All sorts of looks can ensue for only £36.
With this I conclude this particular list.
